What child care facilities are available in Cobar?
Kubby House Child Care Centre is a 29 place long day care centre. They are a community based centre which is overseen by a management committee consisting of volunteer community members and parents. The centre is open from 8am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday for 49 weeks per year. There is an annual closure of 3 weeks at Christmas time.
Working/studying parents, children at risk of harm and Aboriginal children have priority of access to Kubby House.
The centre is made up of 2 rooms. A Toddler Room, which takes children aged between 6 weeks and 3 years, and a Preschool Room which takes children aged between 3 and 6 years of age. The Centre employs three staff in Toddler Room and two in the Preschool Room.

What playgroups are in Cobar?
The Cobar Mobile Children’s Services provides a high quality education program for children aged between 0-12 years. The program offers playgroup sessions as well as support, encouragement and development knowledge to families with children in rural/remote areas within the Cobar Shire. They also have a large variety of toys for hire, library books, parenting and child care workers/teachers resources.

Are there any Preschool facilities available?
Cobar Preschool Centre provides a warm, friendly, safe and stimulating learning environment for children of Cobar. The centre caters for children 4 – 5 years of ages prior to kindergarten and prepares them for the transition into primary school.The office is open from 8:15am to 4:15am with child care commencing 8:30am to 4:00pm. Cobar Preschool operates Monday to Friday and is closed on Saturday and Sunday.

What are the Primary School facilities in Cobar?
Cobar Public School
Cobar Public School was established in 1878 and has been providing a quality education to the children of Cobar from the years Kindergarten through to Year 6 and also offers Distance Education for the student living out of town.
Though geographically isolated, Cobar Public School prides itself on being able to offer many opportunities to our students. In addition to instruction the six key learning areas, some of the opportunities available include participation in Primary School Sports Association knockouts; school choir; dance troupes; Special Religious Education; English, Science, Computer and Mathematics competitions; and the Outback Festival.The school is situated in well-maintained and attractive grounds. Is there any Tertiary Education in Town?
Cobar TAFE College, situated in Bathurst Street, offers Tertiary Education to the community. It currently has over 150 students, including approximately 100 adults presently studying externally through various Universities.

What religions are represented in Cobar?
St Laurence O’Toole Catholic Church
St Laurence O'Toole Catholic Church is in the diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes and aims to know, love and serve Jesus Christ.
Mass is held on Saturdays at 6pm and Sundays at 9am and once a month at Wilcannia Church. Healing Mass is held at the Lilliane Brady Villiage at 10.30am on the 1st Thursday of every month. On the 1st Friday of every month Exposition of the blessed sacrament followed by benediction at 5 to 6pm.

Are there any performing arts in town?
Western Studio of Performing Arts is a Dance Studio that teachers local students in the disciplines of Ballet, Jazz and Tap. Catering from 3 Years to Adults, classes are held in Cobar each Saturday during school term at the Cobar Youth Centre.
WSPA has been established since 1994 and has been coming to Cobar since 2001. Eisteddfods and Exams are part of the agenda as are community events, and the many students who attend classes enjoy learning and are keen and energetic. Dancing provides children with coordination skills, confidence, fitness and fun so the benefits are obvious. All new students are welcome.Contact

Is there a library in Cobar?
The Cobar Shire Library offers a wide range of services for the public. They have public access to internet and email. There is a colour and black/white photocopier, laminating, faxing, word processing, colour printing and a genealogy area for people to do their family history.
On Wednesday mornings they hold Children's Storytime at 10:30am and during the school holidays they have Kid's Craft Activities, usually for two and a half hours. There is also a Bookaholics meeting at 10am on the first Thursday of every month. All are welcome. Cobar Shire Library also offers an interlibrary loan service for books and materials that they do not have in stock. So call in and see them!Contact

What heritage information is available about Cobar?
The Great Cobar Heritage Centre exhibits a wonderful collection of artefacts dating from 1869 to the present day. Once the former Administration Building of the Great Cobar Copper Mine (circa 1910), the Centre now show cases the rich history of Cobar's pioneers, the extraordinary diverse local heritage of Cobar and also mining displays and traditional Aboriginal artefacts. Outside the Centre is Cobar's first copper mining site, an 'Open-Cut' lake which offers stunning views.
The Centre has a souvenir and gift shop with a range of merchandise available for purchase and free information brochures are also available. Visitors can also pick up information brochures free of charge. Free barbeque facilities, picnic areas and toilets are available which visitors are welcome to use.
